COB WALL REPAIR, WOOL, DORSET
19th Century Garden Cob Wall Grade II Listing
Work specified at Abbey Gate Cottage, was a 3 coat lime render system to bring this 200 – 250 year old garden cob wall back to life. A harling coat using a consolidation mortar was first applied in order to provide a key for the scratch coat of haired lime mortar. To give the first coat time to dry, we left the wall for approximately 7 days, whilst going back each day to spray down the hessian sheets as work was done in very high temperatures in the middle of summer. Finally an unhaired lime mortar was applied over the haired scratch coat. This coat was then floated down to a smooth finish following all the contours of the wall.
